Introduction Post

Hey guys! Today is February 1 in Australia and my first official day of student teaching starts tomorrow. I have been in Sydney since the 21st of January, finding my way around and also finding accommodation. The school that I was placed at does not supply host families for their student teachers so it has been an adventure here by myself for the last week trying to find a place. Seeing as how Sydney is such an expensive place to live, a lot of people do flat sharing. I came to find that there would be four people packed into a small room on two sets of bunk beds. I finally found a place that is a bit of a commute to the school seeing as how it is right downtown, so with my handy swipe-card bus pass we are good to go!

I will be student teaching at the International Grammar School, which is a k-12 school right in the heart of the city. I will be teaching secondary gym and health classes, and my cooperating teacher’s name is Dan Collins.

Upon arrival in Australia I was picked up from the country administrator, Neil Tucker. I shared with him my interests in remaining in Australia for the next year and he seemed to have some connections throughout that he was going to try and come in contact with for some short term teaching positions – this will also give me the chance to travel and see a little bit more of this amazing place so I hope that it works out. The weather is hot and humid, but its not snow and that’s really all that matters.

I will admit I am a little bit nervous for tomorrow and beginning my student teaching experience. Managing the work that needs to be completed through the global student teaching program along with our TLC project and requirements for VCSU, I have become a little stressed but I know will all get done and worked out.

I hope all is well with my fellow student teachers as well as with instructors back in Valley. I miss you guys and am looking forward to following your adventures.
